International Youth Peace Summit ~ April 24, 2008

The International Youth Peace Summit will bring together youth from all over the world to discuss how we have been promoting world peace through understanding. The conference will showcase the local and international service projects that youth have created to help repair and rebuild the lives of individuals and communities who are suffering around the globe. Youth from all backgrounds will assemble on the evening of April 24 th at Wayne State University to share stories of how they have worked to be the change that they wish to see in the world.

Contact Katrina Fenton, Event Coordinator/ Wayne State University Rotaract President at rotaractwsu@gmail.com if you wish to participate in the event as a featured performer or presenter. In your e-mail, please title the subject " Youth Summit Participant" and include your name and/or the name of your organization, your contact information ( both phone number and e-mail), and a brief description of your presentation/performance. You should expect a reply with the time slot of your specific presentation and finalized event agenda 1 week prior to the actual event. You are also encouraged to RSVP with the e-mail subject " Youth Summit General Audience" if you plan on attending as a member of the audience. In addition, if you would like to lead a caucus break out session on or related to the provided topics, please send an e-mail titled " Caucus Leader" with a description of the caucus session that you would like to lead .

Registration Information:

Registration and ticket sales ($10) will take place at the door of the Wayne State University Community Arts Auditorium starting at 5 pm. If you are a participant but you can not attend the entire evening of the Youth Peace Summit, you will be sent in advance the time that you will be featured. If you can not attend the entire evening, we request that you show up 1 hour in advance of your presentation in case there are any time changes throughout the evening. Each presentation should be between 7-10 minutes in length. All participants that make a featured presentation/performance will be given free admission to the event.

Event Schedule:

4:00 pm - 5:00 pm- Musicians, performers, and peace market participants should arrive to set up.

5:00 pm - 6:00 pm- Registration, Peace Market, and musical performances

6:00 pm- 6:20 pm - Keynote speaker to launch the evening

6:20 pm- 7:00 pm- Individual and group presentations and multi-cultural performances

7:00pm- 8:00 pm- Caucus break out sessions on the themes below

8:00 pm- 9:00 pm: Caucus break out groups will reconvene on stage.
Each group will give a 5-minute presentation on what they discussed,
including mentioning the issue and proposing the solutions that were brainstormed.

9:00 pm- 9:30 pm: Multi-cultural performances, individual speakers, group presentations

9:30 pm- 10:00 pm- The evening will be wrapped up with Rotary People's Choice
awards that reward the winners of the art submission and recognize the youth who
contributed their ideas and energies to becoming more responsible citizens and building stronger communities.
